Course Outline

ASSI's unique Loss Prevention Course is delivered over 3 full days. We can pride shorter courses tailored to your requirements if requested. This course has been attended by representatives of numerous national and international companies with outstanding results being obtained.

Many training companies offer courses which require the participants to engage in repetitive and sometimes pointless exercises which do not fully explore the capabilities of each team member and after a short time the training becomes quite monotonous.

ASSI's Loss Prevention Course is not simply designed for security personnel. It is designed so that persons from any level can identify, detect, respond and continually improve Loss Prevention techniques in their workplace.

We bring out the best in each team member by not lecturing to them but by having them involved in scenarios using practical training using true to life situations

During the course, participants are exposed to many specialist areas associated with Loss Prevention. These include but are not limited to;

These are not "theory based" workshops. Participants get hands on experience at all levels from understanding how shoplifters operate to how to take action if a shoplifter is identified.

The workshops include ongoing practical sessions in a realistic environment where participants learn by their mistakes, nor spend countless hours filling in workbooks. A field trip is also required to be undertaken which is both informative and educational.

Course Outline - Day 1

The first day concentrates on identifying the working environment, layout and the staff employed.

Where many loss prevention courses concentrate on how to simply prevent loss by being more vigilant and possible putting in more CCTV cameras we initially look at the environment you are working in and how it effects how you plan your loss prevention strategies.

The day continues with the issue of accumulative loss, stock mismanagement, stock takes, goods receiving and bulk orders.

Course participants investigate how loss occurs and demonstrate and learn that is not possible to prevent loss if you do not have a clear understanding of the many ways it can occur.

Course Outline - Day 2

Course participants will be guided through the various methods used by shoplifters. They will be involved in practical demonstrations of EAS tag removals both AM and RF, booster bags, Faraday Cages, deception, diversion.

The day will continue with a field exercise using our "reverse perspective" techniques which put the course participant in the shoes of the shop lifter. This technique has been widely praised in many other courses we offer as one of the most efficient training methods currently on offer.

The afternoon session is dedicated to detection techniques and the action that should be taken on discovering a shoplifter at work. Whether the store policy is to apprehend or to simply monitor and report, we covert all areas relevant to your policies.

Placement of CCTV cameras, layout of fitting rooms and what to do if an alarm sounds are also covered with participants required to engage in practical demonstrations.

Course Outline - Day 3

The final day looks at the issue of approaching an alleged shoplifter who has been observed stealing. We look at legislation that is relevant to the offence and the importance of not becoming involved in an unlawful arrest or detention.

For participants who are not expected to apprehend, we look at the correct method to identify report and assist (IRA Method) and the interaction with security teams.

We look at issues such as continuos observations, human behaviour, shoplifting syndicates.

The afternoon looks at how to interview an alleged offender and how to make clear reports for management and Police in the event that person is stopped and/or apprehended.

The final session is MOAB training. This unique concept has been bought from the US and looks at the Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB).

Our Instructor will show participants how to diffuse potentially threatening situations where customers or other staff may become violent. This training is almost mandatory in many US cities for those persons involved in dealing with customers everyday.

It shows non physical methods to calm people and reduce risk to staff from others. This training would meet many OH&S requirements for your company.

1 day and ½ Day Courses

Our ½ Day and 1 Day courses are a simplified version of the above units but still concentrate on identification of your working environment and demonstrate various methods of identifying, detecting and reducing loss.

MOAB training is not included in the ½ Day and Full Day courses.
